Overview

Destiny 2 is a free-to-play online looter shooter developed by Bungie, originally released in 2017. It combines first-person shooting with MMO-style progression, cooperative raids, competitive PvP, and a science fiction narrative spanning multiple expansions and seasonal content drops.

The game's gunplay is widely considered the best in the genre. Weapons feel responsive and distinct, abilities are flashy and impactful, and the combination of shooting and space magic creates a gameplay loop that has kept millions of players engaged across console and PC platforms.

Gameplay and Content Structure

Bungie says smaller maintenance patches and hotfixes will continue and that Destiny 2 will remain playable, but active development of major new content has concluded.

No other game matches Destiny 2's combination of tight shooting mechanics and MMO-style endgame. Raids like Vault of Glass, King's Fall, and Root of Nightmares are co-operative puzzle-combat experiences that require communication and coordination unlike anything in traditional shooters.
