Myth of Empires is a buy-to-play multiplayer war sandbox developed by Angela Game and published by Imperium Interactive Entertainment. The full PC version launched on Steam on February 21, 2024 after an earlier Early Access period. It combines open-world survival, crafting, settlement construction, character skills, recruitable warriors, animal taming, and large territorial wars inside a persistent historical-fantasy setting.
The game can be approached through official PvE or PvP servers, custom servers, hosted sessions, and solo play. Its long-term objective is not a fixed story campaign: players gather resources, learn production chains, build defended settlements, develop a guild, command human and animal forces, and compete for political control. The paid Xizhou Civilization Pack launched in March 2025 alongside a major free base-game update, while the original game remains separate from the free seasonal spin-off Myth of Empires: Throne.
Progress begins with basic gathering and survival before expanding into farming, metallurgy, equipment production, architecture, transport, and siege engineering. The official store describes more than 1,300 crafting recipes across the available civilizations. Skills improve through use, so gathering, crafting, combat, taming, and command activity all contribute to a character's specialization rather than relying on one conventional class choice.
Construction ranges from a small protected home to fortified guild compounds with walls, gates, workshops, defensive weapons, and production infrastructure. Maintaining a larger settlement requires steady material supply and planning, especially on PvP servers where location, defenses, and access routes directly affect whether a guild can hold its territory.
Players can subdue and recruit NPC warriors, then develop them into laborers, guards, specialists, or battlefield troops. Horses and other animals support transport, gathering, breeding, and combat, while elite Beast Lords provide more demanding taming targets. These systems let a solo player or small group automate part of its workload and field additional bodies without turning every task into direct player combat.
Character advancement also includes 25 development paths, a 16-tier Nobility system, profession changes, equipment crafting, and more than 100 achievements. The result is a progression model built around many interconnected skills rather than a short sequence of predetermined quests.
Guilds can claim land, construct strongholds, negotiate alliances, and use weapons, animals, vehicles, and siege equipment in large conflicts. PvE servers retain the building and progression systems with less direct player threat, while PvP servers place settlements and territory inside a more competitive political environment.
Cross-server Fortress Battles connect the wider administrative system. Organized groups compete for positions such as county magistrate and use diplomacy as well as force to extend their influence. The scale makes preparation important: supply production, replacement equipment, trained warriors, transport, and defensible geography matter alongside individual combat skill.
The base game centers on the Zhongzhou world and can be expanded with paid map and civilization packs. Dongzhou adds an eastern island environment, the Hellenic pack introduces Greek-inspired equipment and architecture, and Xizhou adds a desert-and-oasis map, Shah development paths, caves, new enemies, vehicles, automated production devices, and its Aerial Fortress. Ownership requirements depend on the map or server being joined, so groups should agree on DLC before starting together.
Official servers provide the shared progression and territorial structure, while custom servers can change rates, rules, access, and installed Workshop content. Angela Game also provides a private-server tool and a separate modkit. Players who prefer a controlled pace can use solo or hosted modes, but characters and progression should not be assumed to move freely between unrelated servers.
No. The original Myth of Empires is a buy-to-play PC game with optional paid DLC and in-game purchases. Myth of Empires: Throne is a separate free-to-play seasonal game and does not require ownership of the original.
Yes. The official product page lists solo and hosted modes in addition to official and custom multiplayer servers. Large territorial wars are designed for organized groups, but gathering, construction, recruitment, taming, and private progression can be played without joining a public PvP server.
No console version is listed by the official website or Steam. The current playable release is for Windows PC.
The base purchase provides the original world, survival and crafting systems, NPC recruitment, taming, official and custom server access, solo-hosted modes, and Workshop support. Dongzhou, Hellenic, and Xizhou content is sold separately.
No. Angela Game describes Throne as a standalone seasonal version with separate operation and free access. It shares the IP and can participate in account-linkage events, but it should not be treated as a free edition or automatic expansion of the original game.
