Neverwinter is a free-to-play action MMORPG developed by Cryptic Studios, set in the iconic Dungeons & Dragons Forgotten Realms universe. Launched in 2013, it brings the city of Neverwinter and its surrounding regions to life with action-oriented combat, dungeon crawling, and narrative-driven modules that draw from official D&D storylines and campaigns.
The game stands out from other MMOs with its real-time combat system that requires active dodging, positioning, and ability timing rather than traditional tab-targeting. Its regular module updates introduce new story arcs, zones, and endgame content.
Neverwinter features classic D&D classes including Fighter, Barbarian, Cleric, Paladin, Ranger, Rogue, Warlock, and Wizard. Each class has two specialisation paths (Paragon Paths) that define its role as DPS, tank, or healer. Combat emphasises positioning, dodge rolls, and encounter powers that must be managed on cooldowns.
Module 32.5: Tempus Arena launched in March 2026 with the Slaughterhouse battle pass, Cleric class tweaks for both Devout and Arbiter paths, queue system improvements, and Celestial Mount and Insignia upgrades. A new Interlude content format delivers mid-module updates, with the first Interlude "The Bloom Before the Blood" launching March 11.
Neverwinter's module system delivers regular story expansions at no cost. Past modules have covered the Underdark, Chult, Avernus, and the Dragonbone Vale. Each module adds new campaigns with daily and weekly progression, new dungeons, and gear tiers. The game authentically adapts D&D mechanics including ability scores, feats, and magical item properties.
