Overview

Ragnarok Online is a massively multiplayer online RPG developed by Gravity, originally released in 2002. It is one of the most influential Korean MMORPGs ever made, known for its charming sprite-based isometric art style, deep job advancement system, and the card-based equipment customisation that spawned an entire subgenre of MMO design.

Official servers continue to operate in 2026 with regular updates. Recent content includes Episode 15 and 18 clear tickets, the Garden of Time event, Rune Tablet System, and a Reputation System update for Orc and Goblin Village. The game maintains an active community across official and regional servers.

Job System and Character Building

Ragnarok Online's job system is the heart of its character progression. Starting as a Novice, players choose from six first jobs: Swordsman, Mage, Archer, Thief, Acolyte, and Merchant. Each branches into second jobs and eventually transcendent and third-tier classes with hundreds of unique skills.

The card system allows players to slot monster cards into equipment for specific bonuses. With hundreds of cards and dozens of equipment slots, the number of possible builds is enormous. Theory-crafting optimal card combinations remains one of the game's most engaging activities.

War of Emperium

War of Emperium is Ragnarok Online's signature guild-versus-guild content. Guilds battle for control of castles in scheduled siege events, defending or attacking fortifications in large-scale PvP. Holding a castle provides access to exclusive dungeons and resources, making WoE a central pillar of endgame progression.
