Aniimo is a free-to-play open-world creature-catching RPG from Pawprint Studio, a Hangzhou-based developer backed by FunPlus. It launched on September 16, 2026 for PC on Steam and the Epic Games Store, PlayStation 5, and Xbox Series X|S, including every Xbox Game Pass tier. The iOS and Android versions followed on September 23.
You play a Pathfinder on the continent of Idyll, home to more than 200 species of Aniimo. Its signature twist is Twining: instead of only commanding the creatures you catch, you can turn into them. Global pre-registrations passed 40 million by the mobile launch.
Twining lets you turn into any Aniimo you have collected and use its skills. Forms that glide, dive, or burrow reach places you cannot get to on foot, and they are the key to many environmental puzzles.
Which Aniimo appear depends on the environment, the weather, special phenomena, and the time of day. You catch them in the open world with Aniipods and traps, and most species can evolve.
Operation: Egg Heist is a PvEvP mode in which three-player teams search the Lost Isles for eggs while fighting rival teams. Holo-Battle Interlink sends teams of four against powerful Alpha Aniimo.
Every Pathfinder owns an RV parked at open-world campsites, where players meet. In your Homeland you plant crops, build houses, arrange furniture, and give your Aniimo jobs.
Aniimo runs separate America, Asia-Pacific, and Europe servers. Your progress is fully shared across PC, console, and mobile, but only on the same server. Data on different servers is independent, so choose the one your friends use before investing time.
Beta progress did not carry over to launch. If you took part in a test, log in on the official test rewards page with the same account to claim what you earned. Steam players can link their Steam account to an Aniimo Pass email account to keep those rewards.
The publisher also changed before launch. Since April 15, 2026, Aniimo has been published by Pawprint Interactive Entertainment in Singapore instead of FunPlus’s Kingsglory label, so returning testers must accept Pawprint Studio’s terms to keep their accounts.
Rarer variants follow clear rules. Nurturing an area’s ecosystem builds Prismatic Energy, and every nurture has the same chance to trigger a Prismana Flow that draws out Prismana Aniimo. A guarantee system still backs it up.
A well-timed catch can also land a Lucky Strike. It gives item rewards, raises the area’s Prismatic Energy, and may trigger a Prismana Flow directly. Umbral Aniimo, with Perfect Potential and unusual colors, can appear during Wild Surges or by chance in the open world.
Legendary encounters were redesigned after beta players complained about throwing ball after ball on pure luck. You now collect tokens through exploration and the story, craft a personal Legendary Aniipod, then fight the Legendary and catch it in a one-time encounter.
The first is Irisalis, available from September 25 to December 10, 2026 once you reach Student I. Version 1.1 added a weekly-limited source of Iris Petals, which craft the pod. Spending more petals afterward crafts a Legendary Aniipod: Windchaser’s Departure, which guarantees a capture with Perfect Innate Potential in Sparkling Form.
The game is free on every platform. Aniimo are caught in the open world rather than pulled from paid banners, and the story, Home activities, and log-in rewards provide four free outfits.
The shop sells cosmetics for Lumin Crystals, the premium currency. For example, the Radiant Waveglow outfit costs 980 Lumin Crystals, and the Laurel Moon Blessing accessory and furniture pack costs 280. A Monthly Pass and the Companion Handbook, the game’s battle pass, are also available.
Xbox Game Pass members get a monthly reward pack with one Aniipod Ultra, 15 Growth Flowers, and 300 Glimmer. Playing through NVIDIA GeForce NOW is also possible, but it requires a GeForce NOW membership.
The launch notice warned of login queues, and Pawprint shipped fixes quickly. The September 16 patch addressed repeated disconnects and items bought on Xbox that were not delivered. The September 18 patch fixed a red-screen display bug on some graphics cards.
If you get a black screen on PC, the developer recommends updating your graphics driver, switching between DirectX 11 and 12, and turning off DLSS and Frame Generation on the login screen. For Steam controller problems, set Steam Input to disabled in the game’s controller properties.
Version 1.1 arrived with the mobile launch on September 23. Its maintenance ran longer than planned. Players registered before the update received 1,000 Glimmer for the maintenance and delay, plus one Sparkling Cube for a known issue. The update added Holo-Battle Interlink, the Irisalis event, and a high-difficulty Egg Heist Chaos Mode that unlocks at Tier IV, Elite Egg Seeker.
Pawprint published these requirements on September 14, 2026 and says they may change as optimization continues. Devices below the minimum may fail to launch or run the game properly.
On mobile, Bluetooth PlayStation 5 and Xbox controllers work, along with several telescopic controllers. Nintendo Switch and Joy-Con controllers are not supported on mobile, and controller vibration is disabled there. A Mac version is planned but has no date.
