Last Epoch is an action RPG developed by Eleventh Hour Games that combines the depth of classic ARPGs with modern design sensibilities. After years in early access, the game launched its 1.0 version in February 2024 to strong reviews. It features time-travel mechanics that let players explore the world of Eterra across multiple eras.
The game competes directly with Path of Exile and Diablo IV, carving its niche with an accessible but deep crafting system, deterministic itemisation, and a class specialisation tree that offers meaningful build variety without overwhelming complexity. Players coming from Path of Exile 2 will find Last Epoch's crafting system notably more forgiving and player-friendly.
Five base classes branch into three mastery specialisations each, for fifteen total build archetypes. The Mage can become a Sorcerer, Spellblade, or Runemaster. The Rogue can specialise as a Bladedancer, Marksman, or Falconer. Each mastery has unique skills and a dedicated passive tree.
Season 4: Shattered Omens launched on March 26, 2026, introducing Omen Windows, a wave-based combat encounter culminating in boss fights. New Rogue skills include Shadow Rend and Bladestorm. The Rune of Corruption adds unpredictable gear modification, while Timeglass Fragments serve as a new multi-use currency for trading and endgame crafting.
The Monolith of Fate is the primary endgame system, offering randomised echo maps with scaling difficulty. Echo Chains, introduced in Season 4, provide sequential themed echoes for a more streamlined gameplay loop. The Arena offers wave-based survival challenges, and the Dungeon system provides targeted farming for specific rewards.
The 2026 roadmap includes Season 5 in development and two new story chapters planned to conclude the Orobyss saga.
