Dark Age of Camelot is Mythic Entertainment's 2001 fantasy MMORPG, now operated and updated by Broadsword Online Games on EA's behalf. Its defining idea is Realm vs Realm (RvR): Albion, Midgard, and Hibernia develop separately, then collide in persistent frontier warfare over keeps, towers, and relics.
The live game remains active in 2026. Broadsword brought Patch 1.130a to the live servers, maintained Ywain, Gaheris, and the Pendragon test server in August, and is rotating the Sigilbound Frontiers event through its realm battlefields. It is a legacy MMO with an old interface, but its three-sided PvP structure still offers a kind of realm identity and battlefield uncertainty that newer two-faction games rarely reproduce.
RvR is the main long-term objective. Characters earn Realm Points and Realm Ranks by fighting enemy realms, while organised groups and battlegroups capture frontier structures and defend relics. Because three independent armies share the field, the strongest side can be attacked from two directions and a routine keep push can turn into a wider campaign.
Ywain is the normal live RvR ruleset. The current Sigilbound Frontiers rotation temporarily reshapes familiar zones with event quests, ruined structures, special enemies, currency rewards, and Realm Point bonuses. The Hibernian Emain Macha rotation is scheduled through September 10, 2026 before the event moves again.
Albion draws on Arthurian legend, Midgard on Norse mythology, and Hibernia on Celtic folklore. Each realm has its own races, class roster, capital, levelling regions, and battlefield toolkit. Patch 1.130a opened every race and class to Endless Conquest accounts, but realm-exclusive classes remain part of the game's asymmetric design.
Characters can reach level 50, specialise within their class, unlock Master and Champion progression, and continue developing through Realm Ranks. The official New User Journey guides characters from the tutorial and mainland quests into level-bracket battlegrounds, then provides free epic armour and endgame preparation through the realm king at level 50.
Ywain is the primary three-realm conflict server. Gaheris is a cooperative PvE ruleset without the normal battleground progression, while Pendragon is used for testing. The live world also contains quests, open-world zones, classic dungeons, raids, crafting, guilds, housing, Master Levels, Artifacts, and later expansion campaigns.
DAoC is built around social knowledge. New characters enter realm starter guilds, and grouping becomes increasingly useful for battlegrounds, frontier travel, class templates, and equipment planning. Players who want the signature experience should choose Ywain and find an active realm guild; players who prefer cooperative exploration can begin on Gaheris.
Endless Conquest is the permanent free-access option. Eligible new accounts and accounts that have been unsubscribed for at least 60 days can reach level 50, enter all three realms, use every race and class, access content through Labyrinth of the Minotaur, and participate in RvR without a time limit. No payment card is required to begin.
A paid Veteran subscription removes restrictions. Endless Conquest accounts cannot own housing, have limited trading and crafting permissions, miss most progression bonuses, face a four-hour realm-switch timer on Ywain after earning Realm Points, and can spend only 60 Realm Skill Points even though they may continue earning Realm Rank. Players can upgrade the same account to Veteran access at any time.
Dark Age of Camelot is available through its official Windows PC client and requires an internet connection plus an EA account with a DAoC game account. The official requirements page still publishes legacy Labyrinth of the Minotaur-era hardware targets rather than a modern Windows compatibility matrix.
These are the publisher's posted legacy specifications, not a promise of compatibility with every current Windows configuration. Check the official support pages if the installer, launcher, display scaling, or older DirectX components need troubleshooting on a modern PC.
Yes. Broadsword continues to operate the live service, published Patch 1.130a, returned Ywain, Gaheris, and Pendragon online after August 2026 maintenance, and is running the rotating Sigilbound Frontiers event.
Yes, with restrictions. Endless Conquest provides permanent free access for eligible new accounts and accounts that have been unsubscribed for at least 60 days. It is not a timed trial.
No. Endless Conquest can be played without a subscription or payment card. The optional Veteran subscription removes free-account restrictions and unlocks the full account feature set.
The official live client is for Windows PC. There are no official macOS, Linux, PlayStation, Xbox, Switch, Android, or iOS releases.
Albion is inspired by Arthurian legend, Midgard by Norse mythology, and Hibernia by Celtic folklore. Each has its own areas, races, classes, and combat strengths.
Ywain is the standard live server for three-realm RvR and battleground play. Gaheris uses a cooperative PvE ruleset and does not have the normal battleground progression.
The character level cap is 50. Progress then continues through equipment templates, Master and Champion systems, Realm Points, Realm Ranks, and Realm Abilities.
Yes. Patch 1.130a opened all races and classes to Endless Conquest accounts. Classes are still tied to their home realms, so one realm does not share the complete roster of another.
Realm vs Realm is persistent faction warfare between Albion, Midgard, and Hibernia. Players fight for keeps, towers, relics, territory, Realm Points, and realm-wide strategic advantages.
Choose Ywain for DAoC's signature RvR experience and find a guild in your realm. Choose Gaheris if cooperative PvE and exploration matter more than fighting other realms.
