MIR5

MIR5 is a free-to-play open-world MMORPG by Wemade Next, built on Unreal Engine 5 and PC-exclusive. It introduces a character-switching system instead of fixed classes, the Asterion AI boss developed with NVIDIA ACE technology, and optional WEMIX blockchain tokenomics — launching domestically in Korea in late 2025 with a global rollout planned.

Overview

MIR5 is a free-to-play open-world MMORPG developed by Wemade Next — a subsidiary of Wemade, the South Korean studio behind the long-running Legend of Mir franchise. Built on Unreal Engine 5, MIR5 launched domestically in South Korea in late 2025 with a global rollout planned. The game is PC-exclusive; despite the franchise's history with mobile releases, Wemade Next confirmed MIR5 will not have a mobile version.

MIR5 is notable for two major innovations: a character-switching combat system that replaces the traditional fixed-class structure, and Asterion — the world's first AI-powered boss monster, developed in collaboration with NVIDIA using ACE and NIM AI technology and unveiled at CES 2025.

Character System — No Fixed Classes

Unlike every previous game in the MIR series, MIR5 does not use a fixed class system. Instead, players build a roster of characters and switch between them dynamically during combat, adapting to encounters in real time. Each character has its own role, abilities, and playstyle, and the strategic layer comes from choosing which characters to build, how to position them, and when to swap during a fight.

This design draws inspiration from roster-based action RPGs and represents a significant departure from the class-locked MMORPG tradition. Players who prefer the depth of a traditional class with sub-class combinations may find the roster system an adjustment, but it opens up a different kind of build creativity centred on team composition rather than individual specialisation.

Asterion — AI-Powered Boss

Asterion is MIR5's centrepiece innovation: a boss monster powered by NVIDIA's ACE (Avatar Cloud Engine) technology for AI character behaviour, and NIM (NVIDIA Inference Microservices) for real-time AI inference. Announced at CES 2025, Asterion does not follow scripted attack patterns.

Instead, Asterion records and analyses past battles against players — learning which compositions defeated it, which attack sequences were evaded, and where positioning broke down. It then adapts its strategies in subsequent encounters, targeting party weaknesses, adjusting timing on telegraphed moves, and selecting different attack vectors based on live player composition and positioning data. No two Asterion fights play out exactly the same way.

Fateful Encounter System

Fateful Encounter is MIR5's signature adventure content system. Rather than following a linear quest log, players discover clues scattered across hidden locations in the open world or through unexpected interactions with unique NPCs and characters. These clues connect to unfolding mysteries that reward exploration and attention to environmental storytelling.

Solving a Fateful Encounter chain rewards character growth and can unlock hidden stages not accessible through the main progression path. The system is designed to reward players who explore thoroughly over those who follow a guide.

Open World and Exploration

MIR5's world is built across diverse biomes — forests, deserts, ruins, and more — each with unique enemy types, resource nodes, and environmental challenges. The Unreal Engine 5 rendering gives the world a visual fidelity significantly beyond previous MIR titles, with dynamic lighting, destructible elements, and large draw distances befitting a PC-first production.

A player-driven trading system lets characters exchange items with others directly, with Wemade describing it as a solution for players who cannot dedicate heavy hours to grinding — allowing efficient resource exchange between casual and dedicated players without requiring direct time investment.

WEMIX Blockchain — Optional Layer

MIR5 integrates Wemade's WEMIX blockchain platform, but the integration is designed to be entirely optional. Players can log in, explore the open world, complete dungeons, fight Asterion, and engage with all core content without touching a token, wallet, or marketplace. Blockchain engagement is a secondary economic layer for players who choose it, not a gate on core gameplay.

For the global version, WEMIX tokenomics will use a dynamic coin production rate tied to active user counts, functioning as consumable resources in the in-game economy. The Korean domestic version uses an exclusive in-game currency instead.

Frequently Asked Questions

Is MIR5 available on mobile?

No. Wemade Next confirmed that MIR5 is exclusively a PC game with no mobile version planned. This is a deliberate departure from the MIR franchise's mobile history, driven by the decision to build on Unreal Engine 5 and prioritise PC-level graphical fidelity and the Asterion AI boss system.

What happened to the MIR series' class system?

MIR5 replaces the traditional fixed class system with a character-switching roster. Instead of choosing one class, players build and switch between multiple characters during combat. Each character fills a different role, and strategy comes from team composition and real-time swapping rather than a single build.

What is the Asterion AI boss?

Asterion is a boss monster powered by NVIDIA ACE and NIM AI technology, developed in collaboration with NVIDIA and announced at CES 2025. Unlike scripted bosses, Asterion analyses past battle recordings — player compositions, positioning, and which strategies succeeded or failed — and adapts its attacks and tactics in each encounter. No two fights against Asterion are identical.

Do I have to use blockchain to play MIR5?

No. The WEMIX blockchain integration is entirely optional. All core gameplay — exploration, dungeons, the Fateful Encounter system, and fighting Asterion — is accessible without a crypto wallet or blockchain interaction. Blockchain is a secondary economic layer for players who choose to engage with it.

Is MIR5 related to MIR4?

Yes. MIR5 is the direct successor to MIR4 within the Legend of Mir franchise, developed by Wemade Next under Wemade. Both games feature open-world MMORPG gameplay and WEMIX blockchain integration. MIR5 moves to PC-exclusive with Unreal Engine 5, replaces MIR4's class system with a character-switching roster, and introduces the Asterion AI boss as its defining feature.
