Dragon Nest

Dragon Nest is a free action MMORPG with fully manual combat, no auto-targeting, and ten branching class trees. Battle through instanced Nests and boss dungeons on PC.

Overview

Dragon Nest is a free-to-play action MMORPG developed and published by Eyedentity Games. It launched in South Korea in 2010 and pioneered the instanced dungeon action RPG format that went on to influence a generation of online games. The story is set on the continent of Altea, a world recovering from a cataclysm after the Goddess Altea was struck by a disease called the Black Plague. Players take on the role of heroes tasked with finding a cure and confronting the dark forces behind her affliction.

The SEA server is maintained directly by Eyedentity Games at sea.dragonnest.com and continues to receive regular monthly content patches as of 2026. A separate Dragon Nest Classic SEA server launched on March 20, 2025, running the game at an earlier progression state with a level-32 cap for players who prefer the original era experience.

Action Combat With No Auto-Targeting

Dragon Nest uses fully manual action combat with no auto-targeting or tab-targeting of any kind. Every attack, skill activation, and dodge roll is player-controlled in real time, placing the skill ceiling on the player rather than gear alone.

The dodge roll is the core defensive tool. Timing it correctly at the moment a boss attack lands avoids all incoming damage. Boss encounters are built around telegraphed attack sequences, and missing the dodge window means absorbing punishing combos. Learning each boss's moveset and attack timings is as important as levelling or gearing your character.

Class System

Dragon Nest offers ten base classes: Warrior, Sorceress, Archer, Cleric, Assassin, Academic, Kali, Lancea, Machina, and Vandar. Each has a distinct combat identity before specialising.

At level 15, each class branches into two specialisations. The Warrior becomes either a Sword Master built around rapid multi-hit combos or a Mercenary focused on heavy slow strikes. The Sorceress branches into an Elemental Lord using elemental burst magic, or a Force User who manipulates gravity and force fields. The Cleric tree splits into Paladin for hybrid support tanking, and Priest for dedicated healing.

At level 45, each specialisation branches again. The Lancea class offers two distinct paths: the Piercer who fights with massive spear thrusts, and the Knightess who combines ice and fire elemental attacks. The Machina class specialises into the Patrona, which then branches into the Runia and Defensio sub-classes. The Vandar is a melee-ranged hybrid using a broadsword and wristbow, branching into the Wanderer path.

The Academic class arrived in Dragon Nest Classic SEA in August 2025, with its Engineer branch focused on military weaponry and mechanical devices, and the Alchemist branch using chemical attacks to support allies and pressure enemies.

Dungeon Structure and Nests

All combat content takes place in instanced dungeons. Regular dungeons support parties of up to four players and are divided into difficulty tiers: Normal, Hard, and Abyss. Higher difficulties demand coordinated play and optimised gear but yield significantly better rewards and crafting materials.

Nests are the game's elite boss encounters and the primary source of endgame gear. These instanced fights require one to four players depending on the Nest, and completing them at higher difficulties drops the gear and materials needed for top-tier progression. In December 2025, the Gold Dragon Nest was introduced as an eight-player raid challenge. In April 2026, the Royal Castle Ruins EX Nest was added as the current endgame Nest.

Players drawn to Dragon Nest's instanced boss-rush format may also enjoy Elsword for its 2.5D action combat, or Dungeon Fighter Online for deep class specialisation in an arcade-style brawler.

PvP

Dragon Nest includes dedicated PvP modes where player stats are normalised before combat begins. Well-geared players are scaled downward and lower-geared players are scaled upward, reducing the gear gap and shifting the focus to player skill and class mastery.

Winning PvP matches earns Ladder Points, a currency used to purchase exclusive PvP equipment sets unavailable through PvE content.

Business Model

Dragon Nest is free to play. The cash shop includes cosmetics, convenience items, and — a consistent point of community debate — stat-increasing items. Pets, stat-boosting costumes, and additional crest slots all provide direct combat stat gains. In the SEA version, endgame gear progression is tied to Dragoness Points (DNP), the premium currency, which can be obtained through cash purchase or in-game gold conversion.

Free-to-play players can access all content areas, but keeping pace with endgame gear requires either sustained DNP farming or direct cash investment. PvP modes partially offset this with stat normalisation.

Frequently Asked Questions

Is Dragon Nest still active in 2026?

Yes. Dragon Nest SEA receives monthly content patches. The April 2026 update added the Royal Castle Ruins EX Nest and Spun Gold Equipment Tier 2. The SEA server is the most active region, operated directly by Eyedentity Games.

Is Dragon Nest pay to win?

Dragon Nest has meaningful pay-to-win elements in its live version. Stat-boosting costumes, additional crest slots, and pets sold via the cash shop all provide direct combat advantages. Endgame gear in SEA is tied to Dragoness Points, the premium currency. PvP modes normalise stats to reduce this impact in competitive play.

What is Dragon Nest Classic SEA?

Dragon Nest Classic SEA launched on March 20, 2025 as a separate server running an earlier patch state of the game with a level-32 cap. It appeals to returning players who remember the original era and to newcomers who want a less gear-intensive entry point.

How many classes does Dragon Nest have?

Dragon Nest has ten base classes: Warrior, Sorceress, Archer, Cleric, Assassin, Academic, Kali, Lancea, Machina, and Vandar. Each branches into two specialisations at level 15 and again at level 45, resulting in dozens of distinct endgame builds.

What is Dragon Sword?

Dragon Sword is a sequel to Dragon Nest developed by Eyedentity Games in Unreal Engine. A trailer was shown at Unreal Fest 2024. It is currently in development with no confirmed global release date as of May 2026.
